Fabio Thiers, M.D., Ph.D., CEO, ViS Research Institute
Dr. Fabio Thiers is a physician, scientist, and IT entrepreneur who is a pioneer in the use of collaborative analytics for the study and optimization of global biopharmaceutical development. He founded the ViS Research Institute in 2010, and was until recently a Research Affiliate at MIT, where he was Director of the Strategic Global Trials research program. This program was conducted in collaboration with the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and led to the publication of the first mapping of globalization trends in clinical research, published in Nature Reviews. Dr. Thiers did post-Doctoral research on Trends of Global Biopharmaceutical R&D at the MIT Sloan School of Management, after earning a Masters in biomedical enterprise management and a PhD in the development of biomedical technologies from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology (HST). He completed his medical training at the Brazilian Federal University, obtaining an M.D. degree with diploma equivalency in the USA. Dr. Thiers was also a medical researcher at the Harvard Medical School for ten years, where he made a groundbreaking discovery about the human hearing system, and worked as an analyst of clinical research design trends at the FDA's Office of the Commissioner for one and a half years.
